Sigma telephoto lens with K200D

Hello,

I recently purchased a K200D camera with a standard lens it came with.

I want to buy a cheap telephoto lens to get my chops in order and have been looking at the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG APO Macro Tele Zoom Lens for Pentax AF Cameras.

I read the lens is decent with some draw backs. I had read that the newest edition the APO is much better made then previous ones.

My question is can I use this with my K200D?

If I am correct I have this understood:

1. This lens has a K mount
2. I will need to use Manual Focus since it is not AF compatible

What I'm not sure of:

1. I need an adapter for it?
2. downfalls to an adapter using the lens and camera?

Thank you all for any help you can offer.

The Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG APO Macro works fine with Pentax Digital SLRs. It will work in autofocus. You don't need any adapter.

I don't know much about the quality of this lens.

Thanks!

Thank you so very much!

I can't find one in any stores around here so I have to order online from B&H or an east coast company. Just nervous about doing that with a lens I'm not sure will work perfectly. I can only imagine the head ache that would be.

thank you!

You may want to check this out:

DA 50-200mm $105

The seller is in Sunnyvale. I bet you can meet with him to check out the lens. $105 is a good deal.

Or this one:

Sigma 70-300mm

If you order the version that is supposed to fit Pentax, then it will fit your camera, and will have autofocus and all other features it is supposed to have. It is not, however, reupted to be a particular good lens. The Pentax DA55-300 seems much better form the samples I've seen. And I suspect the DA50-200 would produce better results too - enough better that you could probably match the performance of the 70-300 at 300 by shooting the 50-200 at 200 and then cropping, as I demonstrated comparing to a different (and allegedly sharper) 70-300 in a recent thread in the lens forum.

Most of the reputable places shouldn't be a hassle for returns. The Sigma is a good lens, but for $105, that 50-200 is a pretty good deal.
