Manual lens and Aperture Priority

Quick question. Want to know if my assumption is correct...

If you place my K100 on Av, and use a manual lens, the camera acts as though my aperture is wide open. It selects shutter speed, but only captures images with lens wide open.

Correct?

Correct. If you want to use manual lenses in AV mode, the M42 types are more suited for that. There is no coupler on those lenses, so they WILL be stopped down to your desired aperture.

I've found that the only option that works for me with a manual lens on my k-10D, is to use the Manual - "M" mode on the camera. I Set the aperture to the setting that I want on the lens aperture ring, and then use the "green" button to momentarily close the aperture, take a light reading, set the shutter speed. If the picture is over or under exposed I tweak the aperture or shutter speed a stop and take another. Essentially you use a "Manual" lens on the K-10 the same way you would use it on any manual camera.

Now I'm unfamiliar with the K-100 and it's controls. I just checked the "Digital Photography Review" but I didn't see an equivalent to the K-10D's "Green" button on the K-100, maybe there is. But I've found that with any mode but the "M" manual mode on my K-10D will capture the images with the lens wide open, same as the experience that you are having with your K-100.

Wish I could be of more help, I'm sure that there is a K-100 user out there that can answer that question.

K100D has a Av +/- button next to the shutter button which is equivalent to the green button on the K10D.

I thought the AE/L was the equivalent to the green button. Of course, I could be wrong.

You're probably right. I'd have to re-read the manual to be sure.

"AE-L button on M exposure Selects the exposure adjustment method when the AE-L button is pressed in M (manual) mode. (page 146)."

Thanks.

I figured as much when I tried it.

The AEL button works well, though.
