K2000 For First time DSLR owner?

Hi Everyone,
I am considering the K2000 to begin in SLR. Would this be a good first SLR Camera? Would there be a better alternative that is still affordable?

Thanks!

There are less expensive DSLR's. You could get a good deal on last year's Olympus E510 and E420, i.e, both the 14-45mm and the 50-150mm lens for less than a K2000 with one lens.

However, as an E510 owner, I sure have to work harder to get the same colors that just pop out of my K100D. I think the K2000 will give you better JPG's, although the Olympus cameras do have nice lenses.

K2000d is a fantastic and easy to use camera. My wife's first DSLR and I quite often "borrow" it from her in lieu of my K10D. Picture quality is great and the 18-55 kit lens is surprisingly decent.

K200D is the best way for beginners! A second-hand K100D/K100D super or *ist DS/DS2, *ist DL/DL2 too!

All of them have a good viewfinder. But *ist DS has a better pentaprism-viewfinder.

Received the camera today! I was so excited to try it I just put the batteries and memory card in, popped on the lens and went to the park to try it out. Being my first DSLR it took getting used to. I kept reaching for the zoom button

Look forward to using it this weekend. Thanks for all the feedback. It seems like it will work perfect for me.

Hehe, my wife does that, too.

I'll never forget the time I watched a couple at the beach who had a DSLR. They asked a passing elderly man to take a picture of them. When handed the camera, he looked puzzled for a moment, and then promptly held the lens up to his eye, wrong way round...

Anyway, I'm glad you took the plunge - have fun!

It's even funnier when there's a prime lens attached, and the person looking for the zoom says "Where's the zoom?" and you say "Oh, there isn't one."

Next time, just point to their feet.
