3) Both the DA14/2.8 and the DA 12/24 zoom are about the same size (bulky). The only thing in favor of the new DA 15 is size (and probably construction).

Because it isn't much smaller than my DA18-55 II (it's shorter but just as wide - wider at the front element - and somewhat heavier). For the few wide angle shots I take, I'm happy perfectly happy with the performance of the kit lens at 18mm. It's just way bigger than I really want to have in my bag just for the very occasional use it would get when I am otherwise shooting with primes.
Yep, it certainly isn't the smallest lens in my bag. We are lucky in our choice of small, fast, excellent lenses to chose from. The other day, I was shooting with my 43 and a Nikon user asked "what's that pancake lens" I told him it wasn't a pancake but he didn't believe me. Wish I had the DA 40 to show him!

No money and besides, I'm shooting film these days. My digital body is no longer around.

The 35/2.8 macro is about as close to a standard lens as it looks like we are going to get. It is neither wide angle nor telephoto (though someone is sure to correct me that it is 3.2745mm on the telephoto side of things).
The 21/3.2 is a very nice wide angle, I am sure the new 15/4 is very nice, but I have no expereince with it.
A really good option is the 12-24/4.
I agree with your advice. The Pentax 12-24 f4.0 out performs the 15mm f4.0 Ltd and can hold its own easily against all of the 3rd party offerings out there. Go for the Pentax 12-24, you won't look back.

Wish I had seen this before ordering the Sigma 10-20mm. Such is life.

Another one to consider is the Sigma 15-30 EX 3.5. Although it's quite a big lens and not particularly fast, that 82mm front bit of glass gathers in a lot of light and is really sharp. It's smooth to operate, has an aperture ring, quiet and accurate auto focus and, despite its size, can be hand held comfortably because it's well-balanced. I bought mine for $375AUD and I've been really pleased with the results so far. One thing to watch with it is not to point it too close towards the sun or a streetlight or it will serve up flare spots - easily fixed in PS, but best avoided in the first place.

My 2c worth.
