Yes brofkand, I was referring to used prices, and there are a few K20D's on the marketplace right now that are available at similar prices. If you're keen on new, do shop around, as the prices can vary a lot between retailers.

K20D + DA 18-55, FA 50/1.4 or 1.7, DA 55-300 (better than Tamron or Sigma's 70-300) + D-BG2
this is a great way to start off.
Have a look in the lens reviews to see which telephoto you'd like, but from all the consumer lenses around the Pentax DA 55-300 is significantly sharper and more contrasty than its competitors. You'd have to go to a 70-200/2.8 to go better still...

Something I've forgotten to mention until now: what kind of options do I have for a longer (85mm+) macro lens? I always focus macro work manually, as everyone should
The Pentax DFA 100 is well-regarded. I use the Vivitar Series 1 105mm. I also simply put an adapter on the FA77, definitely a lighter-weight option as I can carry the screw on filter in my pocket. There are plenty of well-regarded third-party macro lenses out there.

Great. I'm not looking to buy a macro lens at the get-go, but eventually I will want one.

Thanks everyone for their input. I think I've pretty well made up my mind what I will buy when I can afford it.
