will the 11 pt metering on the 100ds be a huge advantage to the 5pt metering on the k-m? I'm not sure if i'm using the correct terminology...

I beilieve you're referring to the autofocus points - yes the 100ds has the 11 and the k-m (k-2000) has 5. Personal preference really as to whether you 'need' the 11 or can do with 5. The 5 on the k-m are well placed and useful.

The k-m is a great 'transition' dSLR from P&S cams. It's got that dedicated 'help' button on it to guide you through the advanced stuff.

My mistake about the points. Thanks for the feedback! I think the help button would really benefit me!

Now, since you can go back to Ritz and look at the cameras, can you buy me the K10D??? LOL!

As for me, It's a split between the K100D super and the K10D.
I like the features of the K10D (Mpix and weathersealing and xtra controls) but don't like the noise at higher ISO.
The K100D super has better higher ISO performance but only 6mp.
I'm good with 6mp since it would also not eat up too much of memory space on the SD/SDHC memory cards and the computer itself (for storage).

I'm glad I don't live near a Ritz camera store that has clearance 'coz I would be more confused than I am now as to what to get, if either the K100D super or the K10D.

I think I'll stick with the k100d super. The last one I bought was stolen over the weekend along with my Tamron 70-300mm and 55mm Pentax lenses (I'd barely even used them!) I just figured I'd do some more research prior to replacing them so I purchased the k100d super and a Quantaray 70-300 and 28-90 lens. Rather than buying the k10d or k-m I might just invest in the Pentax fa 50mm 1.4 lens. Any thought or suggestion with respect to the lens choices? I can still return them...
Thanks in advance!

What I meant was that did a little research prior to purchasing another 100ds and found many people really like the camera. I figured if I can maximize the battery life and take the money I would spend to upgrade to another camera and invest it in a pretty good lens, it might be the perfect fit for me...?

I think that the pentax kit lenses are better.
The DA 18-55 AL and the DA 55-200mm.
The DA 18-55 AL you can get at only around $40-$50 now.
The DA 55-200mm are around $100.
The nifty-fifty is actually a good investment..either the A-50mm 1.4 or A-50mm 1.7 or the choice you like, the FA 50mm 1.4.
You can look at the pentax lens database and check the prices and reviews.
The lenses are given points and average price it goes for are there too.
It tells you the pros and cons too of the lenses.

As for me, I got the DA 18-55mm and DA 55-200mm for my K100D super and a 135mm 2.8 prime tele-lens.
I still have to get either the A-50mm 1.7 or just settle for the A-50mm 2.0 ($30 only). My budget is kinda tight 'coz I'm planning to upgrade to the K7 in the near future.
