which entry level slr to buy...

Hi I'm totally new to digital slr photography and am looking for a good starter camera. I've done a bit of research on the Pentax km, k100d super and the K10. I have small hands so I don't want anything too big. I found the 100d super for $209. and the k10 for $249. What would you recommend for shooting outdoor stills and/or candid stuff?:

Where can you find a k10d for $249? I'd jump all over that if I were you.

If you get the k10d, you will probably need to take a class and learn how to use it, as it is mroe advanced than the k100d, and has a steeper learning curve. However, that being said it has a lot more features, and you can grow into it and it will last you forever.
Where can you get a k10d for $249? That shounds ridiculously low, as in it is stolen low.

the k10 is the best camera of those in terms of features and possibilities. but the km, imo, focuses far faster than the k10 so if thats important to you....

If you've got the budget for it, also consider the K200, which has more megapixels than the K100DS and is weathersealed. Like the K100DS, the learning curve on the K200 is less steep than the K10D (not to discourage you from getting a K10D, if you're up to the challenge ).

The only place I can think of where you can get either the K100DS or K10D for under $300 new would be on clearance at Ritz.

As I mentioned, my hands are small and I am reluctant to go any bigger than the 100d super...how big is the 200d?

K200D slightly larger, K2000 slightly smaller. This page should help you size things up...

K100D Size 129 x 93 x 70 mm (5.1 x 3.7 x 2.8 in)

K200D Size 133.5mm x 95mm x 74mm (5.2 x 3.7 x 2.9 in)

There is very little difference in size between K100D and K200D...either way it will take some getting used too...Also K200D weighs 30 grams more...

With these cameras being available in a store you have the oppurtunity to hold them and check them out before you buy. I would recommend the K10D also but ergonomics are important also so pick them up and see if you like them and make your choice.

Of all those, the K100DS is the smallest resolution at 6mp, the others are all 10mp. Don't know if it matters to you, I have a K100D (not super) and am quite fine with it until I have the money to upgrade to either a K20 or K7 sometime in the next year or two.

I've had the K100 for several years now, it's pretty much done everything I could ask of it without a hiccup...and mostly with several decade old manual focus K and M42 lenses, and turned out some darned nice photos if I do say so myself. It was my first DSLR, and was very simple to learn, even bypassing entirely the "scene" modes.
