I have the K100D but I can't remember the firmware number (I'm at work), but I had to upgrade it to use a 4gb card. Found out the hard way after I bought the card and it couldn't read it. I've had absolutely no problems with the camera since the firmware upgrade. Upgrade took about a minute to do.
From the Pentax Imaging site it was Firmware Version 1.02.
Version 1.01 made it support SDHC but then version 1.02 had it improved SDHC support.
From what I have read and heard, you don't have to install version 1.01 first then 1.02. You only have to install version 1.02 'coz it automatically has 1.01 with it.
Anyway, just check pentax imaging and go to "support" then "self support".
After that, you go to firmware "historic product" and select K100D.
Read at what's there and download the firmware update and just follow the instructions/procedure.

Did you extract the file before copying to the card? Did you put it on the main folder and not in the 'DCIM'?

Sorry if it's a bit obvious, but I thought I'll ask

Oh and I formatted my card in my computer instead of camera, just to cleanly get rid of the DCIM folder. I don't know if that helped with anything though.

Hi Yes i formated the card in my computer.
I then extracted the .bin file and the readme file.

Inserted card into the camera and held the menu buton while powering on.

after the v1.0 display it does not bring up any option to upgrade version.

Please ask all the questions you can even if obvious.
Im sure it is something small that im probably missing.

As regards the K100D Super, I think you'll find that there is no firmware upgrade, as we already have the latest version. I tried to download 1.02 but received a message that my camera's firmware was already up to date. Certainly, I've been using a 2GB card for over a year without any problems.

I got it to work last night...

My problem - as i was turning the camera on i was going past the "ON" position towards the picture of the "iris" or watever you want to call it.

I made sure to stop at the ON position and it worked like a charm.

Wow was 1GB card ever so annoying to use.
Finally I have some space to play with now.

Thank you to all of those who tried to help me out

Glad to hear you got it working.

Another common mistake that people make when trying to update the firmware, is to put the extracted file into the DCIM folder on the SD card. It must be placed in the root of the file system on the SD card.

It's to stop down the aperture for DOF (depth of field) preview. Try pressing it while looking into your lens, change the aperture and click again.

It's mainly to see how the DOF changes in the viewfinder without actually shooting the picture. You can also set this to the digital preview but I find the digital one a bit pointless since I can just shoot the picture and see how it turns out.

Glad you got the thing working
