Missing pixel?

New 20D and this "spot" is in every photo in the same area...changed 3 different lens too...

Anything I can do to fix it?

It's stuck on and will stay that way forever. You might convince Pentax to replace the sensor under warranty but they may tell you they don't have to.

One advantage of shooting RAW: some RAW converters will see these stuck or dead pixels and remove them before you ever see them. I have no idea if my four year old sensor has stuck pixels or not.

Yup, it's just an issue we all have to deal with. Shoot Raw or clone it out in PP. My experience has been that it seems to be worse with under exposure.

You could try Pixel Mapping page 235 of the K20D Manual.

Go to menu. Over to set-up. Down to Pixel Mapping. Over one then up to Pixel Mapping.

You should do this with a fully charged battery.

This should map out any hot pixels.

Daz is right but this is not a permanent fix and they probably will return.

My K200d had about 10 dead/stuck pixels right out of the box. But even if you had, say, 1000 dead pixels, that would be nothing considering your 14 mp sensor. Use the pixelmapping function or shoot in raw (most raw converters will eliminate them), or both. Anyway, Gary is right that other--not the same--dead pixels would show up in the future. It's normal. To minimize the number of future dead pixels try to avoid overusing the lcd screen when temperatures are high, and, generally, avoid exposing the camera to high temperatures. (Of course, that's simply not possible sometimes.)

Use the pixel mapping function.... Dont over use it, but it should work. I waited until I had 5 or 6 before I mapped and I have not noticed any since. Knock on wood.

Well I did it and it worked. Thank you! Now my question, since this was just out of the box? Should I just return for another camera? I had one previously that I tried for about a month and had no issues.
If this can be a recurring issue with the camera I have, exchange it?
I certainly don't want it to get worse.

Hot or dead pixels are pretty normal. Some cameras might have a coupel right out of the box, some might not, but within a few months, they'll pretty much all have a few, and over time develop more. You could try swapping the camera for another, but most liekly, you'll just get one with hot pixels somewhere else - or one in which they already ran the pixel mapping before selling you the camera. I wouldn't sweat it.

This is just my opinion but no. Others may disagree but when you have 14 million plus things’ having some go bad is expected. They map them out at the factory before they ship but more may come. As far as I know all digital cameras have some hot pixels. Most of the time you just have to live with them or send the camera in for serves and have them map out the hot pixels. Pentax starting with the K20D gives you the option of mapping them out without having to send the camera in. You may get some more but as long as they don’t get out of hand you should not have a problem. If you end up with dead spots or to many hot pixels all the time you have until the your warranty to send it back.
