About an hour before my K20D lands...

It's OFD and I'm just killing time as the food I bought yesterday is slowly defrosting in the fridge which died last night (serious implications which might delay the purchase of my K-7...d'oh!!) Perhaps a "dorm fridge" is enough...hehehehe). But I will not miss delivery of the camera so food is a small price to pay. I live near a Sears anyway so I can have a new fridge in 20mins if I want...but a few bags of ice (using the veggie bins to hold the water as it melts) will let me see if I can fix it tomorrow or over the weekend...cooking is out of the question...

But, it's now about 45mins +/- until the time my UPS driver shows...should be FUN...hope the battery is reasonably charged up (should be around 40% as that is standard for storage on Li-Ion batteries being stored)...hahaha...than would stink on ice for sure!

man you are not kidding...here is my first take after couple hours of fiddling...this camera is more to my tastes, by leaps and bounds, than my 40D. Not everything is sunshine and rainbows, but so far first impressions are not short of floored at the IQ.

I am gonna wait a bit before adding more detailed observations but it's good!! And sells me even more on the K7.

I have only used the 77ltd so far and it's the most fun I ever had with a lens...

BTW, the camera got here about 5 mins after I started the thread...been changing settings and figuring out the navigation ever since. The HECK with a new fridge...I'll just cook everything on the BBQ tomorrow...hahaha....

Good luck with the fridge. Maybe Sears has a scratch and dent outlet near you. Much better prices, and usually the cosmetic issue is something like (we got one) a stove with a scratch on the side where it is hidden by the counter anyway.

I am certain you will be happy with your new baby. I am still in love with mine, and I got it in Nov 2007 - and it's only 2/3 the sensor you have!

15mpix sensors aren't meant to be pixel peeped. 50D owners were griping about softness compared to the 40D too. You're getting close to the max resolution of lenses on an APS-C sensor, though your 77Ltd should be pretty enjoyable

I've had my K20 for about two weeks and haven't fired'er up yet (please don't yell at me), been pretty busy and still reading the manual.
I got the refurb deal from BB and i'd sware the darn thing is actually new.

I'll try to post my first images this weekend.

A fellow K20 owner,

Ray

Not sure I understand your comment and how it relates to my LIKING ()the IQ of the K20D. Maybe it was unclear from my words? Let me rephrase...

I only shoot RAW so I never pixel peep...nor do I measurebate...that stuff can make a person go blind!!

But, I completely agree, peeping at a 1.5x crop at ~15MP is just nonsensical in most cases.

As for the 50D and softness...it's true in a way but the sensor density needs higher end glass to take advantage of the sensor. But once you get the 50D dialed in, the thing is great...just not sealed. Nor do I like the colors as well as what the K20D is giving me right now or what I have looked at around here...

Right now there is the obvious sense of "...did ai screw up switching..." self-doubt anyone goes through. But that is a matter of learning the system well enough to accomplish what I want. In fact there are a lot of neat functions on the K20D of which I was never aware. The interval shooting is GREAT and I know I will use it for moon shots for sure. Well, at least I'll try it out and see how the focus locks in as the moon moves. Still it will be useful for a few ideas I have. The "catch-in focus" option looks interesting to try out as well.

Right now I am working around the lateral fringing on the 77ltd in those higher contrast situations. I see it decreases dramatically as I stop down so for my product shots it's something to remember, which is fine as I want more detail anyway. Just need to practice is all. Plus I have the 35mm ltd macro due here Monday afternoon...THAT is gonna be fun, moving from a 180mm macro and it's 18" MFD, Sigma, to a 35mm macro with a 4" MFD...should be interesting for sure!!

I am still not thrilled with the physical size of the body, too small for my hands...squeezing to hold on really hurts my hands. Yeah, I am gonna have to "get a grip" if I keep this and wait to grab a K7...the next few weeks to tell me that...no sense in grabbing a grip now if I am gonna sell it right away. That would be just one more thing to re-sell.

oops...there is an old lens going off over on eBay I wanted to maybe grab...we'll see where it goes.

hahahaha...jerky works!! I can do that!! I'll have a fun time with the "...genuine ground 'beff'..." (ya gotta be an OLD Cheers fan to get that reference...snickersnickersnicker...)

I agree about the grip...the body is just too short for my palm so I am having a lot of hand pain while holding it. Not a fault with the camera though. My 40D is a tad too large soooo, I think a grip and a set of Camera Armor might help with either the K20D and/or the K7. I kept Camera Armor on my 40D and it still looks brand new after a year...plus the LOVE the feel of the silicone rubber. Oops, that sounds a bit weird...

you might want to consider buying this one on craiglist, brecklundin. a classic example of a seller who's trying to rip people off.

I have a Pentax K20D for sale only 5 months old selling for $2500 which includes
- Body
- 2 Lens (16-45 & 55-200)
- Falsh (AF360FGZ)
- Battery Grip
- Two Batteries
- Battery Charger
- 2 Pro 8GB Memo Cards
- 2 UV Fillters
- K20D how to DVD

hahahaha "...such a deal we have for you today my friend..."

classic find!! But, hey, I do not feel the seller is ripping anyone off...if someone pays that much, tough, it's not like they do not have the entire web for searching. I never feel badly for anyone who over pays for anything...no gun to their head.

I agree...I just roll my eyes when I see ads like that...hey hey it is further proof stoopid people should not breed.

BTW, if my uncle were still alive he would comment that such sales are often used to launder funds rather than complete a real transaction. He was a cop his whole adult life from the military to retiring as a US Treasure Agent, so he saw illicit intentions in about everything possible...hehehe...funny part is how often he was correct.

BTW, did you ever notice that those HUGE sales for weird items on eBay almost all won by the Casino (I forget which one though) stopped. Seems the unsaid thing was there was no actual transaction that took place, rather it was GREAT free advertising for the place...nothing was ever made public, but I had some pretty much insider contact at that time and it was suspected...

Oh, I remember the name of the casino now but, hey, I ain't gonna mention the name...no freak way!! hehehe, those folks know where Hoffa retired!

Just buy a Canon or Nikon, everyone seems to know that they are the "best".

BTW, Hoffa is burried in the endzone at Soldier Field.

Burried? hmmmm....really? Maybe he is in Grant's Tomb? On the same island with Nixon?

BTW, I thought he was RIP in the endzone of whatever the stadium was, I think, being built for the Jets/Giants at the time...I forget...early onset CRS.
