I've got a chance to get the SB-28 locally for $65.
Go get it. It's a good flash and will work with any DSLR.

Set the flash to A (auto) mode, camera body to M mode.

Set the camera's shutter speed at 1/180 or slower, match the ISO and the aperture settings on the flash and on the camera/lens. Shoot away.

Hi SOldbear
Do you think thses flsh guns would also work with a K200D
Yes. If it's good for a K10D, it's good for a K200D.

Thanks SOldBear, sometimes there's too much information on the internet and finding answers to questions like this is near impossible.

Now it's off to find a good resource on actually making use of a flash.

150 is enough for a good used AF-360FGZ but $35-50 on a AF-280T would be my second choice, though if you can get a good price on some of those Nikons like SB-28 they might be even better. If you think you might use an older Pentax film camera, the AF-280T would work really well there too.

Is anyone aware of a resource which lists flashes along with their capabilities to allow manual settings (1/2, 1/4, 1/8, ... power levels), their guide number, trigger voltage, and perhaps used price?

I'm aware of Mattdm's Pentax PTTL Flash Comparison but it doesn't include any older non-PTTL flashes.

The strobist blog features a comparison of three manual budget flashes but I'm still a bit lost as to what flash I should be targeting.

My current preference would be to pick up used flashes somewhere really cheap and use them with Cactus V4 triggers. I may upgrade later on to better flashes but for now I'd just like to do some strobist stuff without investing a lot of bucks.

This page is targetted at the Strobist crowd, but may have some helpful info. . . if you find more in your searches, send it in- Joseph will add it to the page.
