Thanks again for all the help/suggestions/background info. I went out yesterday for a bit and shot a few pictures, and am getting comfortable with the old dog again.

Am surprised how quickly the manual focusing comes back and getting used to it again. Even though the lens is a hundred years old, I've always taken care of it and it operates very smoothly, even after all these years.

Kinda like having your lost dog come home!!! Thanks again.

Personally, I find the red square and the beep annoying and I have turned them off.

The focus confirmation indicator is the green hexagon at the bottom of the screen. (And a split-prism is not a "rangefinder". That's an entirely different beast).
I used the term "rangefinder" as a practical descriptive device to describe function, not as a technical term. I'm well aware of the fact that a rangefinder is the converging of two images..... I should be, as I own a few myself, both in-camera & independent shoe mounted examples.
As for the focusing indicator, you are correct..... like you , I've had mine turned off for years. I was "misremembering", vaguely recalling that there was some type of visual indication somewhere in the viewfinder in addition to the audible beep. Such being the case, I'm going to get the ball rolling by sending you a dime!

We can't replace the the focusing screen of the K100D.

Thanks for that, salty.

I've had both a katzeye and a knockoff on my K100D. Get the Katzeye. Either will do for me, but the Katzeye is the one I prefer.

By the way, I'll give you $20 cash for that lens.

..as I said, you learn something new everyday!
Thanks for that. It would seem that I have never read anywhere or encountered anybody mentioning this about the K100D..or is it just because the K100D is already an old model and never as talked about as the K10D or newer models.
This is good to know though.

I was right as I never had read it in the manual that the K100D viewfinder screen can be changed as Katz Eye mentions it on their decription for this particular model.
Here is what they said: While the Pentax K100D, K100D Super, K110D, & K200D are not advertised as having interchangeable focusing screens, the screen can be changed by most users and the process is not very involved - no modifications or calibration are required and a tool for handling the screen will be included with your purchase.
Thanks Saltwater!
