Does anyone know what this lens is for?

Hi, I'm new to the wonderful world of pentax. Came across this lens with a vintage spotmatic the other day. It is rather small (only about 3/4 inch in diameter). There is a metal piece at the end that folds over like a clamp. Wondering how to mount it and what this is for? Any expert?

It's a view finder magnifier. It can be very useful for doing macro work work to get fine focus.

It's a magnifier to be placed over the viewfinder.

From Bojidar Dimitrov site kmp.bdimitrov.de:
A magnifier is used for precise focusing. It clips on the eyepiece and provides 2X magnification of the central portion of the frame. It can also be flipped up for viewing of the entire frame.

I've never even heard of one of those for a Spotmatic.

If you want to sell it, please let me know.

Viewfinder accessories

Unfortunately, viewfinder accessories, such as this magnifier or right-angle viewfinders, designed for Spotmatic-era cameras, won't work on Pentax digital cameras. I don't think that they'll even work on the last generations of Pentax film cameras.

You are right. I just tried. You have to remove the hotshoe to slide the magnifier into the groove on spotmatic. Would have been a good alternative to help MF if it fits digital.
