M42 Zenitar 16mm Fisheye safe on Asahi Pentax SL?

Hi everyone,

I've just ordered a M42 Zenitar 16mm fish eye, which is hopefully in the mail.

Now, I came across this article saying the Zenitar cannot be mounted on a Spotmatic F.

My camera is an old screw mount Asahi Pentax SL (pictured here). Would the Zenitar fit this camera? If not, why is that?

Hopefully you'll offer reassuring words! Obviously it wouldn't be good say, for the mirror to hit the lens or something like that!

The only reason I can think of it not fitting a Spotmatic F (or ES or ESII) is that the mount is just a wee bit different on the inside, due to those three cameras having the parts for reading the aperture indicator on the lens. That gear is absent on all other Spotmatics.

As for the mirror.....I have no idea one way or the other.

Thanks Mike. I'm guessing the SL should be identical to the Spotmatic SP except the SL has no meter. Hopefully this means the mount will not be a problem.

I guess I'm just worried about if there's a safe distance between the mirror and the rear of the lens.
