I need a dictionary.

My conversations here have convinced me I am woefully underprepared for the whole thing. I need a dictionary just to follow the whole conversation! Anyone want to point me in the direction of a good beginners guide that explains what all the words mean and why they matter?

Eh... There's a Glossary over at dpreview... It's the only thing I can think of right now - while first looking for a DSLR, always saw that plug at the bottom of the first page of every review
Is it what you were looking for?

Don't be afraid to ask about concepts or words that you don't understand. If you want some basic books on understand Digital Photography, Scott Kelby's are a good, beginner oriented jumping off place.

Not sure if you are also referring to web speak abbreviations. You can look them up here:

Web Abbreviations - WebAcronyms.com

But common ones on these sites are. LBA - lens buying adiction, BIF - birds in flight, IMHO - in my honored opinion, BTW - by the way, OTOH - on the other hand, LOL - laughing out loud...

Not that this distinction is super-important, but this always meant "In my humble opinion" to me.

Don't worry it will be the same few words coming up over and over again, failing that if you can't work it out just ask and we'll have a go at guessing it.

AndrewG: I believe you are correct, IMHO. Thanks. It's hard to be humble...

Just ask anything here even if you think or deem it to be very basic.
We all started from there so helping is not too much of a favor to ask..now, if it were money, then I'll keep my mouth shut and just point you to somebody else!

So you're just chiming in to add to your already bloated post count, eh?

If you've got something to say, say it.

If you look for a good guide to photographic terms and definitions, I can recommend Michael Langfords "Basic Photography". If you are more interested in digital specific terms, I think, Wikipedia is your friend...
