Eek, can't get my K7 working with Pentax-A 50mm?!

Hello,

I hope I'm just being a numptie - decided to invest in a first prime lens for my K7 so bought a Pentax-A 50mm f1.7... but when I turn it on, all I get is a blinking F--- signal and the shutter won't press down fully to expose an image?! Is there a smarter person than me with a similar combo that's made this work or have I been unbelievably stupid?

Many thanks

Is the lens's aperture ring set at "A"?

If it is already, and you still get the blinking F--, wiggle the aperture ring and/or the lens a little bit.

If that fails, the lens needs surgery.

You still can use the lens as a fully manual lens (setting something in the custom menu, but I don't have a K7 to tell you exactly what), but that's not what you bought an A lens for.

ok, figured it, lens needs to be in the 'a' position.

Thanks SOldbear, I hadn't seen that anywhere in the manual

OK. I just HAD to Google that one. I presume from your location and the context, that definition #1 is the correct one here.

God, there's just really no comparison, is there, between the older lenses and modern standard jobbies. Can't wait to get a few more and lose the new standard cheapo stuff... though I must say I can't begin to express how much I loathe the new style focus screens (ie non-split). One of those Katzeye things is a must I think!

Yah - me being a numptie (ie a bit of a muppet)
