My tripod is a big old Manfrotto #055 and the plate is quite big and clunky, so I leave it on the tripod.

On, I use a pod quite a lot so there's no point in taking it of. Unless I'm using it for another piece of gear.

Do you only attach it on-demand or leave it on all the time?
I never leave it in the camera. It takes about 3 seconds to unscrew it from the camera and pop it back into the tripod.

always on. In fact, I have a spare camera plate that sometimes get put on my little P&S to use it on the tripod or monopod. I got the spare plate with the head for the tripod (uses same plates as the monopod head)

You must have the same hexagonal plate that I have! I have the same legs, anyway. The only difference seems to be that I leave it (as mentioned above) on the 400, where the plate looks right at home.

I leave mine on. My thoughts are that if you have to screw the plate on and then attach it to the clamp of the tripod head every time you want to use a tripod, then it really defeats the point of having the quick release plate.

It depends. I have two K20Ds and often have one rigged up with the DA*300mm & 1.4x TC with the manfrotto plate on the camera and the Trekpod mag on the lens tripod mount.

That's the one. But I doubt your legs look anything like mine, unless they too are hairy, long and thin!

Gee, my tripod legs are black metallic things, and there are three of them. You have a really weird tripod, my friend!

Plate stays on my 60-250mm but I remove it from my camera body before I leave if I'm not taking my tripod... that seems to work for me.

For some reason I thought I was the only one lazy enough to leave it on. I guess I'm not then.

I have two of the same ballhead - one on my tripod and one on my monopod. The quick release plates (I have several) are always on - on my camera, on my lenses with tripod mounts, one even on a pair of binoculars.

So, yep - ON!
