*istD help needed

Hello,

I'm new to the forum and actually only found this when looking for some help with my *istD. I'm on vacation with the family and it died on me.

At first when we tried to take a picture, the shutter would open, but then it would not close. We had to turn it off to try and reset it. Now it turns on but can'
t take a picture at all. It does not appear to be reading the memory card at all either. I'm not getting a reading on LCD with regards to the memory card anymore. If I try to take a picture, it does nothing.

Any help or direction would be appreciated!

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve, first thing to try is new batteries. Try that and get back to us.

Welcome here Steve.
As above, then try on a different lens and see as well.

I had the same issue with my *ist D, plus many other strange things were going on. I ended up changing the small battery in the bottom of the camera, and haven't had an issue since. Hope this helps you out as well as it did me.

Sounds good! We had just replaced the batteries, but maybe there is an issue with them. I will pick up another set and let you know!

Thanks again.

OK... tried new batteries with no luck. The indicator for dead batteries was coming up from a brand new set. Anything else I can try? I'm guessing not...

Did you try replacing the small battery in the bottom of the camera as I previously suggested? It solved a lot of issues with my camera.

The little battery on the bottom has been changed as well.

Current status:
It turns on. It will sometimes be able to focus and start to take a picture, but the shutter won't release until i turn off the camera.

Other times, it will not start to take a picture at all. The shutter won't respond. The auto focus will not respond.

We have changed the main batteries, the small bottom battery, lenses and Mem. Cards.

Anything else I can try at home?

We were in Florida with some crazy hot days when this all started. Could that have anything to do with it?

Thanks

Steve

Doesn't sound good - unless the new batteries were also not powerful enough to give juice to the camera. They were Lithiums or high-end NiMh rechargeables I presume?

Any different with another lens fitted?
Not sure if the weather has much to do with it.
Failing all this, it may need to be looked at by a repairer...
