took some pictures with the camera k100d setting set on auto on a tripod and forgot to turn the s.r. off. pictures look slightly fuzzy. is this due to not turning off the s.r. ? thanks for any input.

Yep, if you put it on a tripod, you should turn SR off since the camera will compensate when there's actually no movement. Cheers.

Could be, but not necessarily so, AFAIC.

Did you use a very long lens? Some lenses require very stable tripods.

Did you use mirror lock up (e.g., 2-sec timer)?

Could it be just a bit of misfocus?

Perhaps you could post a crop so that people could judge where the fuzziness is coming from.

If you try without SR and get a different result, then you know SR makes a difference.
If not, there are other explanations, including what Class A is asking about.

Do you still have the image?
If you posted it (or better a crop of it, clearly showing the fuzziness) we could better judge where the fuzziness is coming from.

I have never seen SR induced shake from my K100D. But then I typically use mirror-lock up when it is on a tripod which shuts off the SR off automatically, as Yves pointed out.

From this level of detail, it is hard to tell whether it is shake or misfocus.

At f/5.6 you should have had plenty depth of field but I see you used the centre focus point and that points directly to the white shirt of the tall boy. It is possible that the AF could not lock properly onto this plain white structure and the camera fired nevertheless, although I think it shouldn't in AF-S mode unless it has proper focus.

It could still be shake, though (although it doesn't look like it, AFAIC). Could you post a crop of the image, say just showing the heads of the two left most persons? The crop magnification should not exceed 100%, though, i.e., one pixel in your crop should correspond to at least one pixel in the original. Most image manipulation programs will show the crop magnification.

Focus magic indicates 2 pixel blur width, could be the SR or just plain old missed focus. Does not look like motion blur. Hope you do not mind me running it through Focus magic and re posting it.

Just looked at EXIF in Photo-Me, SR= not stabilized, ISO 200, 12 second timer,
focus point on young mans shirt right below v-neck, weird. Is f 5.6 not enough for DOF in this situation?.

Do not mind at all mike. it may just be a focus concern. i would just like to know if its me or the camara. it seems that i get a lot of pictures that look a little fuzzy not bad but i can see it. where did you get focus magic ? thanks for all the input, m

I just think it is weird that everything, or most of (the group) is not in focus. I would have thought that f 5.6 with a center focus point on his shirt should have been enough.
Maybe someone with more experience has an idea.

Hard to tell if his shirt, at chosen focus point is actually in focus or not, at least on my monitor.

Note on doff, On 18/55 5.6 is wide open at 55mm, however I looked at the total image at 150 percent magnification and cannot find anything that is in focus anywhere,possibly front focus issue. jim
