*istD CF size

Okay, so I picked up a 2nd hand *istD off of ebay for my daughter. It comes with a 512M CF card, which won't hold a whole lot of RAW picks. I know higher cap cards have come out since the camera - the manual pics/size chart goes up to 1G for CF cards, but I would like to know if larger CF cards can be used. Also, any recommendations?

Thanks.

I had a Kingston 4GB CF card for my old *ist D and it worked fine.
Not sure if it can taken any larger than that...

I also believe that the 4 gig is the cap, but you may need to put the latest firmware on it to get the 4 gig card to work.

I have the istD and use a 4Gb Kingston CF card in it. You'll need to update the Firmware to version 1.12. Btw the Pentax site states that the update allows for "4Gb and higher" so 4Gb is definately not the upper limit. Though some user have complained that the larger cards actually run slower on the istD than smaller ones.

I think 4 Gig is sufficient enough as I myself haven't used anything larger than that for the fear that at some point the card may fail and if you have more cards, the more your chances of saving most of the pictures rather than "putting all your eggs in one basket"..so they say.
