I think having more manual control and options is always better.

I think the k20d refurbished for 499 is a really good deal right now...

I would look for those to get blown out between now and xmas.

I bought a k100d refurb last year for 240$ via sellout woot and it has really been a great re-introduction to photography since my high school yearbook days.

I agree with the sentiments re: kit lenses and such. I have hardly used the 18-55 at all and find much more use from the 50 f1.4 fa prime and--my favorite lens--the da 14mm f2.8. I also like the 135mm f2.8 a lens I got from a member on this forum.

Lately I have been torn between a k20 and a k-7, but I think the k20 is the way to go--especially if they get cheaper as they are blown out--because then I would have cash left over for a nicer telephoto lens --such as the 200 or 300mm A or higher series.

a grand for the k7 just seems retarded when the k20 is below 500$.

On the other hand, for me the new body is not even necessary, the k100d takes killer photos when I do everything right and I have hardly done the work necessary to master all of the settings, the use of flash, etc.

I think you would be better off with a k20 body and a nice prime--50mm f1.4 or 35mm f2-- or the k20 and a decent zoom--like the 16-45mm f4--than the kx with a kit lens for sure.

I would keep an eye out for xmas and year end sales, last year things got way cheap in december/january...
