Yet another manual lens question!

I've tried to find the answer to this question before posting, but have not been able to find it addressed.
I recently purchased a 50mm f2 lens on ebay for $10, which I was pretty sure was a darn good deal! I've had a lot of fun with it this week, but also a little frustration. I've read the instructions on how to use manual lenses and have gone through all the steps. I have the K2000, so in manual mode the +/- button stops down the lens and chooses the correct shutter speed. It also seems to work in the Av mode by choosing the shutter speed. My question is this: how would I adjust to a higher shutter speed if the camera automatically chooses this?
Thanks for any and all answers.
Sheri

To choose a higher shutter speed than what is given, you need to up the ISO or lower EV Comp.

Yes, but only wide open - the aperture ring is completely ignored in Av mode. So Av mode will only shoot your 50/2 at f/2, regardless of where you set the aperture ring.

Same way you would with a "regular" lens. In M mode, the dial controls shutter speed directly; in Av mode, you can dial in exposure compensation to increase or decrease shutter speed (and thereby alter exposure). Or change ISO or aperture (M mode only) and then let the camera pick a new shutter speed for you.

Or use a lower ( more open ) aperture.

Use your M Mode.M stands for manual, which in that mode, you can adjust the shutter speed and by using your aperture ring on your lens adjust the aperture.combine to get the right combination.
