Can I put a newer nikon lens on my K100d?

This might be a stupid question but is this possible? I just wanted to know because my friend says that he's got a 50mm Nikkor lens that he wanted to get rid of. He bought it about 6 months ago.

not really...

the Nikon mount is very similar but not the same. Some Nikkors will partially mount (won't lock on) but I think someone here has some that do. I have several but none of mine mount fully. The ones that only partially mount can fall off at any time so be careful. No metering will work (unless you shoot it wide open all the time) so you'll have to learn stop-down trial by LCD/Histogram!

Unless there's a compelling reason (you already own it, it's some weird special thing) the general feeling is just go and buy a Pentax version. If he's giving it away, tell him you'll have it but will sell it to put towards a Pentax !

The registration distance of a Pentax lens (lens flange to sensor) is about 1mm shorter than for Nikon. This means that a Nikon lens mounted on a Pentax camera can focus "beyond infinity" whatever that means. I'm not sure how that would appear in an image.

look in the lens forum.

I bought a nikon AI to PK adaptor for $40 off fleabay.

It has optical correction for th eregistration distance and infinity focus, In fact, testing it out shows it is really a 1.25X Single Group (maybe single element) TC.

It does cost a little contrast, but shots with my mother's AI Nikkor 50mm F1.8 seem reasonable in terms of sharpness. It may be good for long lenses but not for wide angle

You would probably be better off to just buy a Nikon body. That way you retain the optical qualities of the lens (such as you get from Nikkors) and will also maintain the lens automations.

Or just buy a Pentax lens - that would be cheaper.
