saw somewhere they put a k20d (i think might ahve been k10d) onto a weather ballon and sent it up so high the shots it recorded looked like they were taken in orbit - fair bet to say it would have been DAMN cold up there and it never flinched even when the balloon burst and it parachuted to the ground

I didn't mention condensation Yves, I just gave one example. Moving from one extreme to another there's always a potential for failure if you try and use the camera without giving it a chance to acclimatise.
