Wow, I'm overwhelmed by the number of replies! Thank you all. I'm hoping to spend some time with the K20 today.

Another question...

I've been told the 1/180 flash sync is a "big deal." My understanding is the sync speed can be much higher (for fill flash, etc.) when using an external P-TTL flash. True?? Does the 1/180 sync cause any issues for your day to day shooting?

Thanks again...
It can go up to more than 1/180 with HSS (High Speed Sync).
You have to get flashes that are capable of HSS though.
Flash isn't too much of a big deal as built-built in flash is more than adequate for my day to day needs (no professional photography).

If you want top glass for the Sony then the CZ lenses will burn a very big hole in your pocket, but they may be considered overkill for a 12 megapixel DSLR. In the end just go with your gut feeling, you will be happy with the K20 I'm sure.
I would agree with the above. Check out the lens section and reviews and find what array of lens offerings you would most favour. If you're on more of a budget but are not looking to trade off on quality, Pentax glass may be what you're looking for.

The K20 is a wonderful camera. I started out with the K100 4 years ago and in April upgraded to the K20 for a variety of reasons - but kept my K100.

If you go the K20 path, STOP reading about the K7 and all the new cameras for a year and just concentrate on learning the K20. There are always new and improved bells and whistles, features, etc. Just be satisfied - the K20 is a semi pro camera, and it will last and fill most needs for years to come. Bodies are like computers their half life is 3 months.

Lenses last a lot longer, and if cared for a lifetime. Plus with Pentax, they are backward compatible.

I've had the K20 going on a year and there are very few things that it will not do for me (I like my coffee black please).....

In times past, Sony would have been a name worthy of trust. Sadly that is no longer the case - their goods are shoddy.

I used to work for them, so I know.

That's true, and I think that's been the trend for a lot of the electronics companies. With time, it's become more about mass production than long-lasting quality.

Ain't that the truth Ash.

Another of my hobbies is Hifi. In the old days we went to single speaker demo rooms to listen to kit which was delivered by fork lift truck and listened to LPs we had brought with us.

Nowadays, we look at a table of numbers and buy the one with the shiny lights.

My top 10 K20D things I like. No Order though.

1) 14.6 MP..... Means you get higher recorded finer detail.
2) Great glass WILL benefit from the MP count.
3) The Body Build is TOUGH.....Really.
4) PENTA-PRISM (like ALL the film SLRs of yester year)!
5) Green Button... Read Beginners QA
6) GREAT Film like quality images at higher ISO with details
7) DNG (open source RAW code by Adobe)
8) A photographers camera
9) AF confirm works with ALL Manual lenses....Manual M42, Manual PK, and any MF lens with the right adapter. Without chipped adapters as C/N needs.
10) PRICE: UNDER 600.00 NEW and around $540.00 used in Mint Condition.

11) Highly useful TAv, User and Sensitivity modes, no annoying scene modes to cycle through
12) Hyper program and selectable program priorities (MTF, speed, depth)
13) Raw + jpeg
14) Switches for metering and focal point
15) Great ergonomics and grip - all my fingers fit on the camera
16) High ISO noise so fine it looks like film grain
17) Wireless flash
18) Dust alert
Important for some people:
19) Flash sync socket (I haven't used this)
20) AF fine tuning (fortunately I haven't had to use this)

Oops, I just noticed your #6 and my #16 are pretty much the same. I'll change mine; ISO useable to 3200. ;~)

OK everyone...nice job! I'm sold. Now I just need to find one within my budget. Honestly, I've had a soft spot for Pentax since I started looking into DSLR's. I'll keep you all posted!

Thanks again,
Treetop
