SMC F Lenses on DSLR?

I grew up using Pentax 35mm cameras. My last was an SF1. I am wanting to get back into photography but with a DSLR.

Friends are pushing me toward Nikon.

Will any of my SF1 lenses fit on the new Pentax DSLRs? Lenses are SMC F.

I am considering the K-7 or K-X. Will the old lenses work (straight plug in, adaptor) or am I out of luck.

Thanks
Brian

Welcome to the wonderful world of pentax. The beauty of pentax system is that all the lenses will fit the modern dslr (including the old m42 lens through an adapter) and meter correctly. And the F lens also would autofocus. For nikon, the old lens would not meter unless you invest in their high end bodies. And the m42 lens would not even focus to infinity.

They'll work Perfectly!
And, due to the fact that Pentax puts their image stablizers in the camera body, rather than in the lens, you'll even get shake reduction on your old lenses!

bet thats something your nikon buddies can't brag about! :P

Yup- F lenses work with both auto metering/aperture and auto focus on Pentax digital SLRs. You won't even be able to tell that they're 15+ years old!

I have F series 50mm f1.7 and 35-70 macro.
Both work very well on my K20 and the 50mm 1.7 is easily the best glass I own.

Forget your friends. They won't be the ones using the camera. Go in a store and try all the cameras you can see and get the one you are comfortable with. Chances are the Pentax will be the one. It has very good construction, K-7 is weather resistant (Canon and Nikon don't have that in the same price bracket), will have shake reduction on ALL your lenses, and so on...

I second flyers post. My old SMC Takumara 55mm f1.8 lens from my circa 1970 Spotmatic II likes both my K100 and K20 very much.
