Can I use this with my K-x

Achiever 300DX Pentax Program - dedicated to this camera.

I just bought a P30N on E/bay to get the SMC A 50mm 1 :1.7 lens (YES!!) and the above flash comes with it.
Can I use it with my new K-X or will it do damage ?
Conversely could it be used with a wireless remote set up?
Cheers & Thanks

Information for that flash is pretty scarce! This link has about the most definitive list of flash voltages out there (have used it for reference several times myself):

Photo Strobe Trigger Voltages

Although a canon related page, alot of the flashes listed are manual. It sounds like the one you will get from the auction is a pentax p-ttl flash, likely the reason its not on the list! I think in this case you are better safe than sorry, unless you have the means to test the trigger voltage I wouldnt take the risk myself.

I dont know much about off camera wireless flash triggers (use the af 360 I have wirelessly), but that could possibly be an option.

The lens of course will be fully functioning (well, you still need to focus!), but by the sound of your post I am guessing you were just asking about the flash.

As the previous post mentioned, trigger voltage is the most important thing. I wouldn't put anything on the camera before testing it.

"Dedicated" may not mean a heck of a lot. The P30n could not even do TTL. At minimum, the flash can tell the camera when it's ready to fire. The K-x really wants a modern P-TTL flash to use all of its nifty automation features. Anything else and you are doing a lot of the work yourself. Therefore, flashes with decent power and lots of manual settings are the most useful.

I have an Achiever 260T here that's non-dedicated, with a manual zoom head and three power settings. If you get a $10 optical trigger from eBay, it can work remotely. You may have to take a lot of test shots to get the power right. I have lots of flashes like this, and they can create interesting effects.

If you are going to try measuring the voltage, do it carefully. Some flashes can give a very nasty electric shock.
