firm ware?

i am not sure what this "firmware" is...
Do you have to use the CD that i came with and hook it up to ur camera and updates it? sry for the newbie question. :/

Firmware is some sort of program to fix the bugs that are in the first operating system of the camera.
Once a camera company officially releases the camera to the public, the only way to fix bugs (if there are problems with the production) is to some sort of like "reflash" the camera.
The CD that came with the camera are softwares to use for processing your photos and is not for updating firmware.
The firmware updates can be usually downloaded from the official camera company site (if your camera model does have a firmware update).

Hold the menu button while turning on the K20D. The firmware version will be displayed for a few seconds and then the camera will start up as usual.

From what I gather, you just need to install the latest firmware as it will include the previous one to it..if I am correct.
Someone who had firmware updates should confirm this as the Pentax I am using didn't ever had any firmware updates (K100D super).
I think the K200D didn't get any firmware updates either.

For the K20D, you just have to install the version 1.03 since actually there is no 1.02 version!

Here's the link for the K20D firmware update.
Just follow the instruction from the Pentax Imaging Site.
Here you go: Manuals and Literature - Official PENTAX Imaging Web Site

Click Cameras
Digital SLR
K20D
Check "Firmware" box
..then click "submit"

..it should take you to the instructions.

There is a mistake in the instructions which worried some people and I'm trying to think exactly what it was.

IIRC -

I think it carried on flashing "updating" but said complete and was.
