You need an A type lens (A, FA, DA, DFA). If the lens has an aperture ring, set it to A. The AF must be in either AF.s or C and the camera cannot be in movie mode.

Well, that would be a DFA, right?

Don't touch the sensor with anything not designed for that! Most use rubber blower bulbs available at any camera store; some use compressed air, although most recommend against it. This subject has been discussed dozens of times here; please browse or search the forums to check out the tons of existing information and advice. The search phrase "sensor cleaning" turned up a bunch of relevant threads when I just tried it a moment ago.

The dust alert function will not be "chooseable" again until the file containing the dust alert image is deleted from the memory card. Hook up to a PC and delete the dust alert folder.
