Good 50mm prime lens?

I am looking for 50mm (or close to it) prime lens for my Pentax k-x and i have an opportunity to purchase an olderPentax 50mm f/2.0 in good shape (from a pentax film camera).

Is this a good lens, and how much should I pay for it? I see similar lenses on ebay going for around 60-80 bucks...

Thanks!

The 50/2's are the one to avoid unless you already have one or someone gives it to you for free. The 50/1.7's are much better for almost no more money.

I'm moving this to the Beginner's forum. I'd suggest browsing this site or doing a search, as the topic of 50mm lenses comes up at least once a week.

Yes, one of Pentax's best ever 50's.
Excellent example currently for sale on our Marketplace;

If you click on 'reviews' on the top bar of this website you'll find alot of information on all of pentax's 50mm primes, including what would be a good price for a particular model.

I find it confusing at times when people ask about 50mm primes since the 50mm was so ubiquitous as the standard lens in the 35mm film days. Do they really want a 50mm lens for an APS-C sensor (Mark's suggestion is good) or do they want a lens that delivers the same FOV as a 50mm did on film for their APS-C sensor?

Speaking for myself, my main interest in a 50mm is the speed. It's seems like a huge difference being able to go down to f/2 or f/1.7. I know if I want a true 50mm FOV, I need a 35mm lens or thereabouts, but currently I'm not so concerned about it.

Pretty much everyone that cites mm refers to focal length, not the equivalent FoV (unless specified specifically, which does happen).
