Focus screen K-x

Can I use a focus screen from a older Pentax in my new K-x?.
I have the choice of a K1000. ME Super or P30n.
I've had a good look at the treads and how to's on the forum but being a miser /recycler I am looking for a low cost option. cheers

I think on all those cameras, the screens are pretty hard to get to - not meant to be user-replaceable. Then you have to cut them down to the correct size for the K-x without damaging them, and get them positioned at the right distance in the K-x to work properly. It should be possible, but check the prices on those screens from eBay first to see if it's worth the time and ruined film camera.

What a great idea - I'm really missing the focus screen from my old SLR.

Has any tried the ones from "www.focusingscreen.com" - do they work well?

Looks like a no go as after more research it would appear that the screen in the K-x is not replacable.

I picked-up a K3 from them about three weeks ago.
The prism is very nice(clean ans accurate), however the screen is dimmer than stock and much dimmer than a Katzeye. I took mine out in favor of a Katzey with optibright, you're welcome to make me an offer if is you like.

Not designed to be easily replaceable, but that was also true of the K2000, K100D, and *istDL, and lots of people managed to replace their screens for those cameras. No reason to assume you couldn't do that with the K-x.

But the real question is, would any of the old screens be worth using? You're not going to make the viewfinder any larger, and that's the main issue. Many of the older screens are actually darker than modern ones. If the thickness isn't the same, focus will likely be off. The only advantage would be to get to the split screen, if the camera you are taking the screen from had one of those.

Try the ME Super screen. The super has a nice screen. There are several videos on You Tube that show how to mod a screen.
