Lens won't focus

SMC Pentax-FA 1:4 28-70mm AL

When I mount this lens it will not focus.
It either rolls left and right or if it does stop, the Green focus indicator does not stop blinking and focus is not achieved.
To get the camera to focus I must turn the Aperture ring off and on. Sometimes it takes several tries.
I have swabbed the contacts with alcohol.
None of my other lens' have the problem, so it's not with my K10D
Any suggestions? .

Are you able to obtain focus with manual focus? One of the elements inside the lens might have moved out of position, keeping the lens from obtaining proper focus.

YES I can.Sometimes with the green indicator appearing, sometimes without but manual focus is OK.And as I mentioned earlier, auto focus works fine after I fiddle with the apeture ring, releasing and resetting, sometimes it takes several tries. When it finally settles down it works fine.

Did you try cleaning the electrical contacts on the lens mount?

Yes. As I had said I swabbed the contacts with alcohol. Is there a better way?

Not hard to tell that I'm no yosouf Karsh.
The contacts were not the problem. But following your suggestions I hauled out a magnifying glass to look at the contacts then compared them with anothere lens' while waving the magnifying lass around I chanced on the bent lever. No idea what it's called but after whacking it with a ball pein hammer, the lens behave as it should.
Can't say how the bent lever happened or when but must have bumped it pretty hard to bend it that way. I my defense, I bought the lense new and seldom had a need to use it.
But thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
