Can you disable continuous shooting?

Hi - this is probably in the manual but I didn't download it and I don't have the camera yet!

I was in the store trying a K-x and I ended up firing the shutter several times when I just meant to take one shot... man that thing is fast! So, is there a setting to disable the continuous shooting, or do I just have to train my trigger finger?!

This happened several times and could get annoying if I don't want strings of shots... Thanks.

Yes, certainly. Not sure about the K-x, but on most other Pentax cameras, you hit the Fn button then the "up" arrow to get to the drive mode screen.

Same thing in the K-X. Push the four-way up and you'll open the drive mode screen.. Choose single from there.

On the K100D super, as mentioned previously, it has single, continous, 2 sec timer, another timer (12 sec, I think..actually forgot).

Not to mention 3 sec and instantaneous remote settings. The short self timer and remote settings lock up the mirror at the beginning of the timer, and release the shutter 2 or 3 seconds later, reducing vibration when shooting on a tripod.

The best thing to do is to read the manual to see what your can and can't do.

2 sec self timer and 3 sec remote are the two mirror lockup settings on my k10d. I am using the Remote F, so I use the 3 sec setting. If I were to spring for a cable release (a bit more reliable in bright light) I would need to use the 2 sec self timer setting.

Hope this helps.

Well, I choose to train my finger, as it's way easier than going in the drive menu when you need continuous!

Thanks for all your quick answers guys. Good to know I won't always end up with duplicate shots by mistake! I figured it would be that way, but I didn't immediately figure it out while briefly playing with one in person.

I also do this rather than set it to a per shot basis.
