is there a reason iso 100 is not the default on the K-x other than the fact that 200 provides a quicker shutter speed?

I'm not familiar with the K-x, but don't confuse default with native. Default is what the firmware sets it at if you haven't set it yourself. Native is, well, it is what it is. The native ISO of a sensor is a result of the construction of the sensor. (electronics, filters, coatings, etc) As far has how the native sensitivity is determined, I would have to put a lot of time and thought into an explanation, which, if it were correct, would be pure coincidence because I really don't know.

This thread has got me wondering. I have always tried to shoot at ISO100 other constraints allowing in the assumption that this will give the lowest noise.

Does anyone know what the native ISO is on a K20D?

after reading the DPreview of K-x, and seeing their picture comparison, i have come to the conclusion that ISO100 is visually better than ISO200, albeit not by much. And common sense tells me this would be for every other digital camera, that a lower iso will give you a better iq no matter how small the difference. If I am wrong, please feel free to correct me

I cant believe how K-x being so inexpensive is so good. amazing. Yes, you dont have all the PRO features and dials, but picture quality is perfect. Well, maybe not perfect, because nothing is life is perfect, but it's very good.
