DSLR mirror lockup is rarely useful for handheld photography. It disables the SR and doesn't let you see what's going on through the viewfinder.

However, the 2-second delay CAN be handy. I'm not good at street shooting, but on occassion I will enable the 2-second delay, press the shutter, and then move the camera to my subject, shooting from the hip. This makes it even less obvious that I'm photographing them

this locks up the mirror, disables SR, then takes the photo 2 seconds later.
This is my MO, works every time.
