Hello,

How do you check shutter count on a K20D?

Thank you.

I just want to add that PhotoMe, did not show the picture.

Mine works perfect.
In "Open file" I open my last image, then i just write "shutter" in the find field in the bottom. Then the shutter count appears in the field above

I'll let him know to try that. Can shutter count be reset back to ZERO?

How about this question. If my friend would email me latest picture taken, what can I do at home to check shutter count?

please note that his current image says IMG 0003.

As long as the exif and IPTC are kept with the image there should be no problem.
That means donīt use the function "Save for the net" in PS, just resize it and save the image as usual.
The name IMG 0003 have nothing to do with the shutter count.

That sounds like the file number, not the shutter count. The file name (number) can be reset, but the shutter count can not.

The shutter count is not displayable by the camera, nor is it an external part of the image, the way the file name is. The shutter count is ONLY visible in the EXIF data of each image. You need a program like PhotoME, Opanda, or Exiftools to display the data. Some photo editting software will show the EXIF data, as well.

I use Exiftools. Here is a snip of the output:

Shutter Count : 4308

As follow-up, is there any easy way to learn from scratch about how to get shutter count on a K20D on a Mac?

I've never obtained shutter count for any Pentax body and am starting from the beginning.

Many thanks.
