Replacing my 40D for a pentax

hi guys. as the title says, im thinking of replacing my 40D and getting a pentax. im leaning towards the kx. yes it might be considered a downgrade but my needs right now is towards a camera with a decent video. im also considering the k7. what i want is something better that the 40d, lighter and with video. as you see im confused right now so any help will be appreciated

I honestly don't believe any dslr platform has perfected video enough to be switching platforms for. Just my opinion.

Maybe the next generation of cams... but certainly not this gen. Some folks have done some nice work with them but...

If I had to pick between the two pentax's it would be the K7

The user interface of the Kx is cramped and menu driven... it is hard to seriously drop back for video and have to put up with that IMHO... and I like my K-x

If you have invested in sufficiently good Canon glass, it will be a questionable enterpries to jump ships. May be likes of Canon 500D or Canon 7D will be a better option for you.

I think if you are used to the pro-enthusiast build and handling of the 40D it may be difficult to go back to the menu driven limitations of any entry level SLR, whether from Canon or anyone else. Depending upon how heavily you're already invested into Canon lenses, it may be more cost effective either to buy one of their bodies with video capability or if you can afford it, buy the Panasonic GF1 with 14-140 lens as a very good video\hybrid camera. that said, if you are thinking of moving from Canon anyway, I'd highly recommend the K-7 as a remarkably well specified and well-made camera with superb handling and ergonomics in a very compact package.
