Turning off built-in flash when using AF540 on K10D

Is there a way to turn off the built-in pop up flash on a Pentax K10D and use only an external Pentax AF-540FGZ flash in a wireless set up? I'm getting too much direct light on some photos that I want side and bounce lighting only.

Thanks

You can try to diffuse the pop-up flash to reduce the amount of direct light, but you can't use the 540 as a wireless flash unless you a wireless transmitter on your hot shoe and a receiver on the flash. I use the Cactus V4 system, and I'm pretty happy with it so far. You can also use the 540 off-camera with Pentax F5P cable.

Have you set it to OFF in the custom menu. ON it acts as master, OFF it acts as controller. It will still flash but it will be a pre-flash and shouldn't affect the picture.

Thanks much; I'll give that a try. I wasn't sure, but thought that the means by which the 540 is activated is by the on camera flash sending a flash to it.

Thanks agaiin
