K-x, worth upgrading to?

Hello folks.

It's been a very long time since I last visited the forums. I was looking to get some advice.

I'm a happy owner of a K200d, I've had the camera for over a year and it has impressed my thoroughly thus far. However, since a friend showed my his Canon 5d I have been interested in shooting video. While I'd love to get the k-7, it's just not an option.

Is it worthwhile to move to the K-x? To be honest, I'd be apprehensive about moving to a CMOS sensor though I don't think that's justified.

Do you use the weather sealing?

If not, then it's a great upgrade. Better high ISO performance, faster Autofocus, Smaller body, video..

Do I use it? Not really. I like the concept though, but I don't know when I'd be able to afford one of the sealed lenses.

I'm not so sure I'd be appreciative of the smaller body, though I imagine that's something I'd have to check out in person.

The K-x is small. Like really small. Personally, I love that.

I couple it with a DA 40mm "pancake" and it basically fits in a coat pocket. If you can find a store locally to hold it and test it, I would. Not sure how possible that is, most stores don't carry pentax unfortunately =(

The store I used to work at sort of carries Pentax, but not a great selection. I'll give them a shot though.

It's not. Technology advances, and whatever stigma used to be associated with CMOS is long gone now.

As for whether the K-x would be worth it, really, only you can decide. Compared to the K200D, you give up a few things and gain a few others, and there are any number of threads here on the forum outlining the differences. Sounds like for you it's mostly about video, so I'd be looking at this as, would the same money be better spent replacing your K200D or simply buying a video camera? There would of course be tradeoffs.

Try the K-x in your hands, test it out under different conditions, and see what you think. It'll impress you.

I suggest that you try the camera first. it may or may not be to your liking.
