quality of KX len kits 18-55 and 55-300

How is the quality of KX len kit: 18-55mm compared to k7 or k20d 18-55mm len kit? Also the KX 55-300mm compared to standard Pentax DA 55-300m? Thinking of get KX with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL and 55-300mm f/4-5.8 ED.

The Kx 18-55mm kit lens is the exact same one as the K20D 18-55mm kit lens (smc PENTAX DA 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL II).

The K-7 has the weather resistant version, but with the exact same optics (smc PENTAX DA 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL WR).

The 55-300mm is the same, regardless of whether you get it as part of a kit or separately. It's the exact same lens (smc PENTAX DA 55-300mm F4-5.8 ED).

All of these lenses are infinitely better than ANY Canon/Nikon kit lenses... by leaps and bounds.

It is not the exact same lens. Optically, yes but the kit version has a plastic mount and it comes without a lens hood.

Moved to Beginners Corner, this thread isn't about the camera.

oops, didn't know that. I thought all Pentax lenses with plastic mount had gone the way of the dodo...

They were revived (cloned from DNA samples?) with the launch of the K-m, to reduce weight and cost.

Both of these lenses have plastic mount, no hood & no quick-shift. For the price difference, it's a shame the K-x isn't available as a body only so that people can get the "full" versions of the lenses.

Yes, but it costs $5 + shipping more than I paid for my K-x kit with DA L 18-55mm included.
