Good intro book: Lonely Planet's Guide to Travel Photography

I just finished reading Richard l'Anson's "Lonely Planet's Guide to Travel Photography" and thought that it was worth recommending to those who are relatively new to either photography or SLR photography.

He covers all the basics -- the difference between point-and-shoot, bridge, film SLR and digital SLR cameras. He covers pretty well what f-stop, ISO, and shutter speed do and mean. Although the title says "travel photography", most anything most of are likely to do except formal portrait and wedding photography has an analogue in this book. There are sections covering photographing just about everything -- architecture, birds, other animals, people and festivals, landscapes, etc. The wealth of photographs accompanying each section help you see what he's talking about and learn about composition. He also talks about the workflow process once you get the photos taken, info about printing, how and where to share, and how to sell your photos.

My only real ding against the book is his constant use of numbers like "f 4" and "f 5.6" instead of the more accurate "f/2" and "f/5.6". It's no wonder many people don't understand how the "hole gets smaller as the number gets bigger"!

I picked it up at my local library, but with a $22 price tag (US) for a 360-page book, it seems like a good deal for the new(er) photographer even if purchased.
