Shooting Raw

I've been shooting Jpegs with my Kx and have just started experimenting with raw. I shot a handfull of shots and when I opened them with Picassa, the oranges were blue, and all the colors were similarly off. They looked fine on the camera's screen. The only guess I have is that Picassa can't render PEF files? Is this true?

Thanks.

Sorry, should have searched a little harder. I guess Picassa hasn't added support for the Kx's raw files.

With a K-x just shoot DNG, don't shoot PEF.

It looks like a very poorly rendered raw conversion.
What tools does Picassa have for raw adjustment?
I'd be surprised if it can render the file, but not have support for it.

Shooting in .DNG should resolve your issues.

On a side note, I kinda like it.

The color channels are swapped from the software not knowing what goes where in the PEF. Paint Shop Pro XII does the same thing with the K7 (and I suspect the Kx as well).

Swap them back or as others have said, use DNG.

Most processing programs have a Channel Mixer of some sort. It looks in the photo as though the red and blue channels are swapped. To swap them, you would select the Red channel, set Red to 0% while pushing the Blue to 100%, and in the same edit stroke, do the same thing on the Blue channel (Blue > 0%, Red > 100%). Some experimentation may be required but once you hit it, it'll become the first step in your PEF RAW processing.

-OR-

You could use DNG..

Thanks. I'm interested in swapping channels just for the shots I've already taken. I could not find any sort of channel mixer in Picasa, but I just got the program and am still working my way around it. The camera is now set to DNG. Any other free programs that may be better than Picasa, and hopefully easy to learn?

Try this for your PEF files:
FastStone Image Viewer - Powerful and Intuitive Photo Viewer, Editor and Batch Converter
I like PICASA a lot, too. It has some very simple and useful features.
