ist DL firmware update nightmare

hi all please help i have no hair left from pulling it out! I am trying to update firmware on my ist DL i have followed the instructions on the update website to the letter and so has my younger more intellegent brother and when i press the menu button and switch camera on the SD card does not download new file and the screen says 'version 1.0'
please can someone tell me what I can try now, or what im doing wrong. I have used 3 different SD cards all previously used on the camera to store photo's successfully. I really want to be doing something stupid wrong ......thanks in advance!

You did of course place the correct .bin file in the root directory of the card? It must be an istDL upgrade file.

And if the batteries are low the update will not take place.

I don't know what else could be wrong.

You unpacked the .bin file, put it into the root directory of the card, right?
You didn't put the bin file into the DCIM folder or some such, did you?

Or the .exe file if using Windows... that would be equally futile.

brilliant ideas all tried by my more intellegent sibling and even made him try again explaining what he was doing, im not a popular sister i can tell you. i will try again with batteries changed to brand new ones fully charged in case but thats my last resort - oh well i guess a pentax service shop next ......bummer but you are all brilliant thx
