Nikon Speedlight on a Pentax camera?

I have been wanting to branch out a bit, as I don't have a Pentax speedlight or any other substantial off-camera lighting either.

I DO have an old Nikon Speedlight (SB-22s) which I have used a couple of times on my K100D Super. Things are VERY blown out . I don't expect to have real control of this flash unit, but am wondering...

Will playing around with it on my camera have any damaging effects?

Can I somehow use this speedlight for an off camera application?

You should probably cover all but the center pin to make sure you don't short something either in the camera or flash. If you have a hot shoe adapter that allows the one pin out (PC sync cable??) that should work well for off camera. Or if you have radio remotes such as PocketWizards. Those don't care what you have on the other end.

Other than that, using it as a manual flash should be just fine.
With the proper metering and manual settings, there is no reason your photos should be blown out.
