Need Help to Identify This Lens

I have found a lens that is numbered 4258219 and it says 1:1.8/55, says made in Japan, and Super, and Auto. The first row on the bottom goes from 16-1.8. The next row up goes from 16 and ends up with a 16. The third row says 0.6 and then 0.55. The fourth row up says 2 and then 1.75. It has a cap over both ends of the lens. I am trying to find out what this lens is called. It gets taller when you turn it and it does say auto. (You can tell I don't know a thing about it, can't you)? I want to sell it and I don't know how much it is worth, or even what series or name I should call it. I would appreciate your help. Thanks. Sandi

Does the rear cap screw off (M42 type mount) or click off (Pentax K mount)?

This is an excellent lens which people can use on film and digital cameras, but unfortunately, it's not worth very much.

Go to eBay and search Pentax 55mm 1.8 Super Auto Takumar to giver you an idea of prices.

This lens was imported by some individual into the US when a company like Honeywell had exclusive importation rights. To get through customs, the labels on the lens were obscured with black paint. On this lens, they have painted out "Takumar" and "Asahi Opt. Co.". Another sign that it's an imported lens is the front cap. Lenses sold by the US distributor had the distributor's name on them. This lens was typically the standard lens on a Pentax Spotmatic camera. They are fairly common.

The lens has a filter screwed into the front. Buyers can see the actual lens condition better without that. They will want to know whether it still works properly and whether the glass is in good shape. Accessories like a case and hood will increase value. With the above photos, it'll sell for $15. On a good day with a well-presented listing, maybe $50 or more.

Thank You Everyone

I want to thank everyone in this discussion for their wonderful answers. You have been very helpful. I have now listed my item for sale at sincerelysandi.com. Hopefully I will get a buyer. I also put in a plug for this site in my listing. Thanks again. Sandi
