Get Pentax 35mm f/2 or Sigma 30mm f/1.4 50mm on aps-c is too narrow for general use

I think the Tamron 28-75 might be a great choice (based on the superb high ISO performance of the K-x, especially if you intend to use electronic displays for your photos.)

It is a little heavy (AKA "well built"), but is sharp over a nice focal length range.

I've already voted for the Fast Fifty. If you have time to practice before you go, also consider a cheap sharp used manual 28/2.8 and/or 35/2.8 -- there are TONS of these around at ridiculously low prices. And read up on Catch-In-Focus.
