Marc, thanks much. I've decided to get the Sigma. For candids at parties I can just use the kit lens that comes with the camera, I suppose. Or...if I get really hooked and come down with a bad case of lensitis, ...

OK, but it's called LBA (for lens buying addiction, or the support group for addicts, lens buyers anonymous).

You'll find the kit lens OK at first for candids; eventually you might want something f/2.8 or better, but the kitlens will get you started.
