How to use the Forum to sell?

I figured I'd put this in the beginners forum. Hopefully I'm right.

Am I allowed to do price checks before I list any items?

I have a bunch of gear I was going to Ebay but thought I could list them here and save the fees.

Problem is that a lot of the items havent been on Fleabay in a while and I couldnt find many comparable items here.

Go to the markplace forum and read the sticky threads there explaining the rules and procedures. They should answer any general questions you might, although I'm not sure about the specific question about price checks.

You could also check the review sections of this site to see if there are any reviews of the items, and if so, what the prices people paid were.

There's a Marketplace sticky asking sellers to leave the price in their listings after marking the item as sold, just to keep an archive of prices. The review section has prices, but older prices aren't that relevant and some people just like to talk about the deal they got. You can always sell something faster if you sell it for less. With a fixed price mentioned in advance, you don't get as much impulsivity as with bidding.

I like to see listings where the seller is prepared. I think photos are essential and should be included at the beginning, not when the seller gets around to it. I have a homemade light box and a routine; I can take about 5 photos of a lens, process them and upload in about 30 minutes. Shipping shouldn't be a surprise either. I have boxes and packing material, recycled from purchases, and I know what everything weighs before I list. Information about the item should be complete. I think everything should be tested. I always check function; sometimes I have a really thorough test and sometimes I have no good test photos. Sellers here vary in how they want to get paid, where they'll ship and whether their price includes shipping or is separate. Include that information in the listing.

I have bought a lot of stuff so my selling philosophy is based on how I like to be treated as a buyer. By following that philosophy, I haven't had trouble. I sometimes wonder about sellers who complain a lot about difficult buyers. I might be right or just really lucky.
