Is this as good of a deal as I think?

OK I think after seeing this price I have made my decision to go with the K-x

I have been considering the K-x and K100d and K10D

I found the K-x with 2 lens kit (18-55)&(50-200zoom) for $588 shipped plus I'll get another $20 rebate

Making it under $575 to my door.

Good deal?

Sounds too inexpensive. Might be grey market.

Seems a little too good to be true. Do you mind sharing the name of the website offering this deal? It's about $120 less than the cheapest reputable merchant I've seen.

Instead of getting the 50-200, I would opt for the 55-300. From what I have read it is a sharper lens. I have the 55-300 and love it.

I did not want to share the link for fear that I would be accused of advertising but here it is.:
Butterfly Photo - Pentax K-X 12.4 MP Digital SLR w/ 18-55mm & 50-200mm Zoom Lenses (Black)

Let me know what you think.

I do not think you can get there by going direct to their site.
I went threw Bing.com Shopping.

I have no idea how well or not Butterfly Photo rates.

The price shows up as $799.99 when I click the link.

Always chek resellerratings.com

ButterFly Photo / outlookaq.com - butterflyphoto.com - Reviews, Ratings and Prices at ResellerRatings

Read through the negative comments (pretty much every site has some) and see what you think.

Butterfly is a decent on-line retailer -- I have purchased from them a few times and always received good service. That price sounds about right. Check this link out for a recent pricing survey:

Pentax K-x stock status and availability matrix - 1001 Noisy Cameras

As others have commented, the 55-300 zoom is considered by most to be a much better lens than the 50-200 zoom. Since the Christmas sale madness, K-x kit prices have increased, but you can still find the two lens kit (with 55-300 zoom) for under $700. I recently purchased this kit from Tri-State Camera & Video for a total cost of $684. (The same package had been going for as low as $650 earlier in the year.)

I've heard mixed reviews about them. I hear they have some issues with grey market items. They were the cheapest out there when I bought my k20, but my brother talked me out of using them. Please heed Eruditass's advice - do your research before you buy. It looks like there are plenty of reviews on them out there.

I agree but do it with the understanding that most of the time the people writing them are mad about something. I would think that for every negative store review there are 100's of pleasant transactions.

Yes, it is best to call and verify that this is not gray market and comes with Pentax's U.S. warranty (assuming you are here in the U.S.)

I think that's about an average deal for the 2 lens kit actually. I saw them going for $475 in the Dell outlet or something like that a few weeks ago, wish I picked one up then.

Butterfly's been around for quite a while, but I've never dealth with them.

However, the K-x 2 lens kit w/50-200mm for $575 sounds about right. It's $110 less than I paid for the kit with the 55-300.

Abe's of Maine - a very reputable dealer now located in NJ - has the same kit for $588. Heck, even Walmart has it for $623.

Dell outlet is used and open box, a different sort of deal.
