How to post a photo?

OK, is there a message someplace on the forum explaining how exactly to prepare a photo for posting here and then actually posting it? I've taken my first photos with my new K-x, but they are very large files (2.5mb at least)...I have installed Photoshop Elements 8, too, but haven't cracked it open yet except to "get" my first photos from the camera. Any help in this regard will be much appreciated.

P.

Why do you need PS elements to get photos from the camera?

Having said that and not knowing the specific program, it should have an option to resize. Resize to something like 750x500 pixels.

Under windows, I use a program called Irfanview to resize/resample.

Do not forget to save under a new name, else your original is gone.

You can also host them online from flickr or photobucket and just copy the imagecode's then paste them into this forum's reply box to post an image

I would recommend making a Flickr account, you can batch upload them and host them in your account. I've been using Flickr for quite a few years now.

There isn't a lot of point to posting 2.5Mb photos unless you want to show some Pixel Peeping aspect of the photo. 500kb is plenty of detail for web viewing. Your PS Elements should be able to save for web and give reasonable sized JPGs. You can use a free image hosting site like Photobucket.com to host your photos..

Open your picture in Photobucket...

Click the area shown by the red arrow and it will copy the link..

Come back here to your post and click the icon pointed out by the arrow..

Paste your link into the box that pops up..

And Viola!!

Good luck..

To be honest, I don't really like it when people link to photos on other sites. The problem with it is that people clean up, forgot that they linked the photo(s) and on this forum we have dead links or messages that the photo is not available.

So I prefer to upload the photos to pentaxforums or attach them to a post

People don't clean up their forum albums? Thanks for letting us know your preference. ..

BTW, while Elements will indeed let you resize your pictures, most hosting sites will resize for you also automatically on upload, so you might not actually need to resize first. Just upload and go. The main trick when using an external site is to be sure you get the URL of the image itself, not of the web page containing the image. That's by far the most common mistake, along with not clicking the Insert Image button (or the IMGWIDE button for unusually large images if you have the occasional need to post one) but instead simply pasting the URL into the message.
